Meet The Author
Jason Hedges is a New York-based beverage director with more than fifteen years of experience developing and running New York’s finest Michelin-rated beverage programs such as Gotham Bar and Grill, Aldea, and L’Ecole. He currently serves as director of beverage at LT Hospitality’s L’amico, Back Bar, Skirt Steak, and Second and consults hospitality clients worldwide at Streetsense. Jason is a founding partner at Bar IQ, a full-service beverage consulting firm.
A sought-after teacher and engaged peer, Jason regularly lectures about spirits and cocktails and serves on panels for both wine and spirits for the industry-leading Ultimate Beverage Challenge. He is a Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier.
Jason’s approach is straightforward: start with fresh ingredients, quality spirits, and classic technique. He believes that everyone—whether a veteran bartender or a novice—can share in the creativity and congeniality of drink making.
Meet The co-Author
Philip Barash is a writer, urbanist, and amateur cocktail maker. His practice focuses on stories of places and landscapes—from the bourbon country of Kentucky to an industrial watershed in Detroit; from adobe homes in New Mexico to the historic parks of Boston. Philip’s travel writing appears in Crain’s, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Santa Fe Reporter, and elsewhere. He served as the inaugural design editor of Newcity magazine and is currently on the faculty at Boston University.
Philip is grateful to have worked alongside co-author—and cocktail inspiration—Jason Hedges on a book that invites readers to heighten their senses, animate their creativity, and imbibe the poetry of time and place.

Sonya Barash Hedges is an award-winning creative/art director, designer, and visual artist who has worked with some of the best-known and best-loved brands across the US. Sonya develops thoughtful, exquisitely crafted communications for the food, drink, and restaurant industry and is the creative force behind the beverage consulting firm Bar IQ. Her work has been recognized with an Ad Age Marketing 50 Award and a Communicator Web Award, among other industry honors.
Sonya’s design vision is integral to this book, from the choice of paper for its pages to the delicate pen-and-watercolor illustrations that grace them. By way of Sonya’s work, readers will encounter a sense of harmony and delight among these pages.
