“This book attunes us to the abundance of ingredients that surround us — are indigenous to the land we inhabit, harmonious with its climate and soil. Without slipping into nostalgia, it transports our palates to a different era: before mass farming created an empire of monocrops, before refrigeration forced produce into frosty cellophane. The seasonal recipes contained in this section contribute to a culinary zeitgeist that prizes fresh ingredients, celebrates simplicity and quality, and supports sustainable agricultural practices.”

“Jason Hedges eloquently illustrates the meticulous intricacies behind the art of crafting cocktails with respect to the nature of each season. We raise our glasses to The Seasonal Cocktail!

~ Laurent Tourondel

Meet The co-Author

Philip Barash is a writer, urbanist, and amateur cocktail maker. His practice focuses on stories of places and landscapes—from the bourbon country of Kentucky to an industrial watershed in Detroit; from adobe homes in New Mexico to the historic parks of Boston. Philip’s travel writing appears in Crain’s, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Santa Fe Reporter, and elsewhere. He served as the inaugural design editor of Newcity magazine and is currently on the faculty at Boston University.

Philip is grateful to have worked alongside co-author—and cocktail inspiration—Jason Hedges on a book that invites readers to heighten their senses, animate their creativity, and imbibe the poetry of time and place.
